LanguageTool: revise a paragraph without losing your voice

Treat grammar suggestions as questions to consider, then read the finished paragraph as a reader would.

LanguageTool

LanguageTool provides writing assistance for grammar, spelling and style. It can be helpful during revision, particularly when small errors distract from an otherwise clear message. It should not decide the meaning of your text or replace your judgement about tone, audience and context.

Review a correction in its sentence

Use a short review containing a quotation, a book title and your own commentary. Examine each suggestion in context rather than accepting them together. A repeated name may be intentional, and a quoted sentence should not be silently rewritten to match a grammar preference. Keep a small list of recurring errors in your own prose and revise those manually in the next draft. Check data-handling conditions before sending unpublished manuscripts or personal information to any online writing service.

An editor still needs to decide what the text means

Check the currently supported language, product features and privacy arrangements before submitting text. Avoid uploading confidential material unless your organisation’s rules and the service terms permit it. A clean grammar report is not evidence that a claim is accurate or that an article is original. Verify facts and attribution separately. The best result is a clearer version of your message, not a paragraph that sounds like everyone else’s.

Pause and try it

A suggested rewrite sounds elegant but changes “may” to “will.” Should you accept it automatically?

Reveal a possible approach

No. That change strengthens the claim. Preserve the level of certainty supported by your evidence, even if a different sentence sounds more fluent.
