Joplin: build a practical notebook for reading and research
A small notebook structure can keep reading notes, web references and next actions close together without turning into clutter.
Joplin
Joplin is an open-source note-taking application supporting notes with different kinds of attachments. Its official site describes rich-text and Markdown editing, web clipping and synchronisation options. It can suit a reader who wants a working notebook rather than another stream of items to scroll through.
Make a reading note you can retrieve later
Create a notebook for one reading project. In each note, separate the source reference, a brief quotation and your response. Use a small set of meaningful tags rather than a new tag for every sentence. Try finding a note a week later using only the topic you remember. Before relying on several devices, test your chosen synchronisation setup and make an export you can restore. A change propagated to every device is not the same as an independent backup.
Synchronisation and backup solve different problems
Check the current synchronisation and backup instructions for your chosen setup. Do not confuse synchronisation with an independent backup: unwanted edits can also travel between devices. Respect the rights attached to clipped material and avoid publishing private notes by accident. Start with the basic application before adding plugins, then add only the features that solve a repeated problem in your own workflow.

Pause and try it
You have clipped twenty webpages but cannot remember why. What should you change about the next clip?
Reveal a possible approach
Add the question it answers and a one-sentence summary in your own words. A smaller collection with a clear purpose is easier to use than an unexplained archive.
